Yes and no. :) Agree that competition is NOT the purpose of yoga and who cares who's bendier?? On the other hand, there is a really strong and old tradition of yoga ASANA competition in India, and these events can be a great way for yogis to challenge themselves, share their passion, and inspire others. I've been in a couple yoga comps and they have been GREAT experiences - very fun, motivating, social, extremely NON-competitive, and inspiring. Just my 2 cents. :)

Hi thanks thanks for the name. I hadnt read the comments above excpet the one that it looked gay and thought that guy was out of line. Have now looked up loads of vids by Esak Garcia, and having just started Bikram Yoga and finding them very helpful and veyr impressive flexibility. Having been into bodybuilding all my life seeing tremendous flexibility like this is amazing.

I would agree that most people in the U.S. do yoga to stay fit-very Hatha based vs. Raja. But to catagorize everyone by saying,'to see real yoga' one has to go all the way to Nepal is simply a gross injustice to people who do 'live' yoga here in the states... My comment posted earlier is like asking the question 'who's moral conduct is better'? If you have to have the question validated you probably should go to contortionist school where moral conduct doesn't play a part.

Most things weren't ever designed to be a 'sport.' Pretty much anyone who does yoga in in the US doesn't do it for what it was designed for-which was meditation- we do it to stay fit, not to find oness. If you want to see real yoga, go to Nepal.

Go to Esak Garcia, read his bio, and you will find that he is some one to be quite envious of really...

This is so beautiful. The music along with the poses is ethereal!

It is Beautiful, but yoga was NEVER designed for competitions, tournaments or championships. Display of movement for spectators enjoyment makes this a sport- which of course yoga is not.

Spectacular! Bravo!
